Metonym is Back!

Our Spring 2025 theme: Reflection. The sun’s rays bouncing off of the ripples of a lake, recalling memories of childhood, passing by a mirror. Whether it be abstract or literal, internal or communal, reflection allows us to return to an idea or a time with a new perspective. It permeates everything we experience, allowing us to see purpose or meaning that was previously hidden to us at the time, or makes clear the futility of that concept or moment. Reflection isn’t limited to one idea or image- it is where art begins. What have your reflections looked like? How has your perspective allowed you to reflect on your life or others?

Our Spring 2024 issue is currently selling for $15. If you would like to purchase a copy, please mail cash or a check to the address below, and we will send you the issue. Please make checks payable to Jessup University and write Metonym Journal in the memo line.

Metonym is an annual publication of Jessup University's undergraduate English program located north of Sacramento, California. Staffed by students, our literary journal is a yearly, periodic collection of original fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, and visual art.

Metonym has always done its best to have a mission statement that is flexible and broad enough to include within its scope: A search for meaningful and quality work. The staff of Metonym believes that great art worthy of publication must say something profound and meaningful about the human experience.
